Modern Systems Help Celebrate Maryland’s Rich Heritage

In order to update and integrate its multi-building campus in the Mount Vernon Cultural District, the Maryland Historical Society added a 40,000-square-foot gallery building with a central courtyard and a new, glass-enclosed visitors’ entrance. The addition also includes an expanded research library and new exhibit and educational space. Engineering upgrades included the installation of a chiller to an existing cooling plant, requiring close coordination with the museum and the general contractor to ensure that museum operations were not impacted. Mueller engineered the modernized mechanical systems to address goals for consistent environmental control, extended service life, service access, ease of maintenance, reliability, redundancy, and energy efficiency.
